FOOTBALL  »  LIGA 1  »  STEAUA / CONCLUSION OF THE TRAINING CAMP FROM ANTALYA: THE TGEAM FROM GHENCEA IS MUCH WEAKER THAN THE TEAM FROM LAST YEAR, WHICH MANAGED AN EXCEPTIONAL RETURN

STEAUA, do you still have strength?

Articol de , - Publicat luni, 16 februarie 2009 00:00

With the same coach, Steaua needs the same fabulous path from the spring of the year 2008 in order to hope to take the title, but now the quality and the players’ labour conscription from the last two weeks predict a somber return

"The friendly matches are not relevant" is one of the stereotypes from this break. Because in Romania, there are 3 months between the turn and return, the friendly matches are very often. Steaua finished the training camp from Antalya and, 11 days before the official match with FC Vaslui, draws up the conclusions.

Steaua 2009 must take the example from Steaua 2008
They know what they need. Even Lăcătuş affirms this. "If we don’t have al least 14 victories in the 17 laps, we won’t take the title". What do they have to do in order to reach this performance? They shall look in the last return where they had a similar result and they will find the last year return. In the spring of the year 2008, Lăcătuş won with Steaua 12 matches from 15. The second part of the championship was exceptional, they missed the title, but they recovered amazingly the difference towards CFR and they demonstrated that it is possible.

You can see here what Lăcătuş declared after the defeat suffered in the friendly match with the Danish from Aalborg

Having the model from last year, Gazeta went on the story line and analyzed what happened in the two training camps considered vital for Lăcătuş in preparing the great offensive from the championship: Larnaca (Cipru), in the period January-February 2008, and Antalya (Turcia), in the period January-February 2009. What happened last year and what happens now? Does Steaua have a better period now than 12 months ago? Is it possible to repeat the TGV run from last year? The answers are in the following lines:

DEFENCE

The same players, but much more disordered!
Zapata is the same Zapata from 2008, plus a big mistake, from which they received the goal with Slovan. The defenders line is almost the same. Goian, Ghionea, Petre Marin. Only Ogăraru is title on the right side and not Golanski, as last year, but the competition on the left side is missing, where Neşu doesn’t play anymore. The result? The defence was perfect in 2008; in 5 friendly matches they made mistakes as in 30 minutes from the Saturday match with Rudar Pljevjla. One of the explanations? The organization was much inferior to the one from 12 months ago, when the couple Goian-Ghionea was impeccable, when Golanski played just like a metronome, announcing the perfect return which they were about to make.

Alex Tudose: "I adapted at Steaua. I wil make everything I can in order to become title"

MIDDLE

What a difference!
The paradox is that last year they used a system with two players in front of the defensive line and they scored many goals, now it is more difficult to score, although Rădoi left and Toja came. Actually, Steaua has lost two important players in the middle and he they brought an individualistic and weak player:

Dică for the team, Stancu for him
Steaua troubled to sell Dică, but they didn’t realised how important he was in the team. Do you remember that one year ago, after every friendly match, Dică was almost all the time the MVP of the matches? He scored often, he executed very well the free kicks and the penalties, he gave goal passes and he solved the offensive game. Stancu scored now two goals, too, but Bogdan lacks two qualities which Dică has: altruism and the constancy in the play.
VYou can see here the goal acored by Bogdan Stancu in the friendly match with Rudar

Mendoza, score keeper and play maker...
Besides, the Peruvian Mendoza integrated perfectly. Two goals, a bar and excellent evolutions for a player brought for free and who doesn’t have any correspondent in the present team. Semedo and Szekely, who coasted together almost 3 millions, are running in  a match just as Mendoza runs in 10 matches, but he runs without avail for their colleagues and for the team.

... Dayro, just waster
The Columbian played at Steaua even last year, just that he didn’t have the status he has today. He was seen like a reserve, just the way he began the return, and now, he played for a longer period. He scored a lucky goal with the kids from FC Moscow and as for the rest, he annoyed Lăcătuş. He wastes many attacks, he is individualist and if you even compare him with Dică practically you finish him as a football player.

ATTACK

Kapetanos is not Pepe
Steaua with Kapetanos with respect to Steaua with Pepe represents the difference between CFR with Fabbiani and CFR with Ruiz. Which is huge. Pepe made a huge pressing; Kapetanos is too smooth and without courage to imitated him. Pepe created al least 3-4 occasions per match, while the Greek obtained a penalty in the first game with Slovan, after that he had no important accomplishment. The difference is huge also in the play with the head. The south-American scored once with the head and he won a lot of balls at high, Kapetanos is in debt at this chapter.

THE SYSTEM

Offensive on the paper, disappointing in practice
4-2-3-1 i Cyprus, last year, with very good results and with accurate evolutions in all the segments. 4-1-4-1 now, and Steaua’s fans were exalting: "They finally gave up to a stopper". The result?

1. He disordered the defence: Ovidiu Petre is left alone many times when the adversary recovers and goes in the attack. Semedo, Dayro and even Toja remain too high, so that Steaua’s defense is a little bit uncovered. From this situation and up to the many needs in the defensive there was just a step.

2. System which "kills" Dayro: Reprehended all the time by Lăcătuş in order to play in the defensive side, too, Dayro is in fact isolated in a tactical module which is not suitable for him. He is not free to act, and many times he stays far away from the box forward and because of this he cannot improve his main quality, the speed. Besides, now, with respect to the lat season, he arrives harder in the adverse box, where he could be lethal through his fast exercises.

LEADER
When Rădoi left, the discipline left, too!
Steaua lost more than a valorous player when they sold Rădoi to the Arabians. Mirel, didn’t played in any friendly match in practice and the same did this year. Where is the difference?
Last year: With Rădoi near the team, even injured, the team was powerful with him on the ground. It was a discipline group, everybody knew who the leader was and the players didn’t risk making a bath in the Mediterranean Sea being shot and photographed, without Rădoi’s agreement.
Now: At the first friendly match from Antalya, in the minute 73, the banderole from Steaua remained without possessor. Ghionea went out on the ground, Petre Marin, who entered on the ground, refused to take it, to Lăcătuş’s astonishment and the other persons on the bench, the banderole remained on the arm of that player who was closest to Ghionea, i.e. Baciu.

"The system 4-1-4-1 is more important in the defensive phase, and with respect to the offence I don’t think it is very important the way you arrange the team"
Marius Lăcătuş, coach at Steaua

"Dintre Kapetanos, Pedriel, Liţu and  Stancu i would choose to transfer another forward" :)
Basarab Panduru, former midfielder at Steaua

100% was the percentage of the victories in the friendly matches from the training camp which preceded Steaua’s fulminating return from last year

40% is the percentage of the victories  in the friendly matches which Steaua had in the training camp from Antalya

1 goal received Steaua last year in 5 friendly matches in Larnaca (Cipru), and now it received four times more goals in 5 matches
1 match finished now Steaua without receiving any goal, with respect to 4 goals received in Cyprus 2008

5 players who played in the middle line at Steaua one year ago, i.e. all the title midfielders, were selected to the national team: Ovidiu Petre, Rădoi, Dică, Nicoliţă (Romania), Mendoza (Peru), with respect to only 3 in the present: Ovidiu Petre and Nicoliţă (Romania) and Toja (Columbia)

0,8 goals scored per one match is the average Steaua obtained in the friendly matches from Antalya, almost a half from that obtained last year in Cyprus (1,4)

6 points is the difference between Steaua and the first place, occupied by Dinamo
