Ilie Dumitrescu is the new coach of Steaua and he will be presented tomorrow at the Ghencea Stadium! Gazeta found out that the former striker of the "red-blue" team will take over as head coach after Victor Piţurcă resigned.
"Now, I am coming to Bucharest from Constanţa. Tomorrow, we will talk more and we will see whether or not i am the new coach. Be patient until tomorrow," said Ilie Dumitrescu for gsp.ro.
Gigi Becali, owner of the team, only said that the new coach: "is a man that I called when Victor Piţurcă left and he told me that he will come. It's a big name from the former glories of Steaua. He has "red-blue" blood. He will work for free", said Gigi Becali at GSP TV.
Ilie Dumitrescu is a product of Steaua's junior teams. He made his debute at Steaua, and played over eight years in the red-blue shirt. He played at Sevilla, West Ham, Club America and Atlante. As a coach, he led teams like Otelul, FC Braşov, Apollon Limassol, AEK Athens and PAOK. His last job as a coach was at Panthrakikos and he is currently a sport analyst at DigiSport.
