Sapunaru was injured last night and Razvan Lucescu made a surprising decision: he called Cosmin Contra (35 years old) at the national team who just announced his retirement from football on the same day.
After the match with Steaua when he managed to score, he said: "If someone makes me an offer I would still like to play. Tomorrow, I will be a free player and I will see what happens". Contra has 72 national team selections and participated at Euro 2000 and Euro 2008.
On April 1st 2009 he announced his retirement from the national team after the match with Austria, but later announced that he is available if he will the team needs him.
Lucescu had to make some changes, instead of injured Cristi Tanase he called Rapid's midfielder Mihai Roman.
