The Greek referee didn’t give yesterday either the physical tests and it is almost sure that he will be changed from the match Romania-Serbia
Kyros Vassaras announced that he got injured at his back and he didn’t give yesterday either the special tests at Nice, in France. So it is almost sure that FIFA will replace him from our match with Serbia, scheduled in the preliminaries of World Championship 2010 on 28th of March, at Constanţa.
The chance
Theoretically Vassaras has another chance: 4-5 days before the match Romania-Serbia, in Greece takes place a UEFA tour for juniors. There will be present as a delegate even Josef Marko, the member of the Committee for Referees from the European court. He could validate the tests which Vassaras will give then. In these conditions it would be less probable to be replaced and it is almost sure that FIFA won’t risk delegating another person.
Sources from football affirm that Vassaras, 43 years old, didn’t give the tests yesterday because he was afraid that he is not prepared and will fail the exam again. On the other hand, the journalists from Greece said that, if Vassaras really has problems at his back, in the ratio of 90 % he will miss the entire season.
Old friend
Except for the football, Vassaras is also a tourism agent in Salonic and he refereed also the match Romania-Holland 1-0, at Constanţa, too, but also the match from Cupa UEFA Rapid-Hamburg 2-0, in 2006.
Romania won with Vassaras in the centre the match with Holland, 1-0, from the preliminaries of Euro 2008. Goian scored then the goal of victory from offside
