Unless wait the results game, Romania has to defeat the Olympic champion in order to ensure a place in the semifinals
Romania-Norway will be the last game of the day and the “tricolors” will know until then what result they need for a medal. "We don’t want you to have mercy; we have to make an easier life for us. It will be very hard with Norway; I think it is above all the other teams, but we have to have faith. The girls will struggle and will do all their best to win", declared the coach Radu Voina.
Romania and Norway met ten times in the last 5 years and "the tricolors" won only two times: 29-21 in 2003, at the World Championship from Croatia, and 28-22 in a training match from July, in Cluj Napoca. Another two matches ended with a draw, as for the rest there were six victories for the Olympic championship. The last official game took place in Beijing, in groups’ phase when Romania lost just on the line, 23-24. It is obvious that the Russian referees Poladenko and Cernega helped the team from Norway, which has won after Romania leaded with three minutes before the end.
"I forgot the nightmare with Spain!"
Narcisa Lecuşanu was out of strength at the end of the match from yesterday. "The matches’ rhythm is infernal. The match with Spain took all our strength and the result brought only disappointment. But I forgot that nightmare and we wanted to show another face with Ukraine", declared Narcisa. The “Inter” from Romania scored 10 times yesterday, they had an excellent game. "We had a good start, but we fall again. We were lucky to get over in due time and in the second half we gave some goals on the counter-attack and on the second phase", added the player from Oltchim. The match with Norway is trustingly waited. "We have always played well with Norway, but almost every time, they won with a distance of one or two goals. Maybe this time will be different", hopes Narcisa.
It depends on us
Daniela Crap thinks that Romania depends on other people in order to arrive in the semifinals. "Nobody wants us in the first four; others would cut us in small pieces if they could. We have to help us, to defeat Norway", declared Dana. "We hope to be more powerful after the match with Ukraine, we forget about the match against Spain and I hope Romania will still look like in the first three matches", concluded Crap.
"I didn’t remind them about Spain!"
The Romanian coach, Radu Voina, declared after the yesterday match that he hoped the first halt with Ukraine to be very difficult. "We got over very hard after the failure with Spain. Only in the second half did we play very well. Everything was in our mind", said Voina. The coach said that he didn’t reproach anything to the girls. "We won’t win anything, we’ll have to analyze. We still have to be friends, in the locker room has to be silence. Only this way we can manage", explained Voina.
"It will be just like a final!"
Carmen Amariei says that the match with Norway will be like the last action from the European Championship
- Carmen, did you get over the defeat with? In the second half with Ukraine you played well.
- This is what we wanted; let’s forget about the failure with Spain. We are very sorry, the entire Romania expected for a success, but it wasn’t meant to be. We played worse and we couldn’t win.
- Did you receive encouragement messages after the match with Spain?
- We received a lot; there are people who love us also when we are in pain, which support and encourage us no matter what the results would be.
- Was it difficult with Ukraine?
- Very hard, they didn’t have anything to lose and they struggle for every ball. It was very difficult for us in the first half, but in the second half, as you told, we did all our best. We played with temper, we didn’t hurry and we obtained the two pints.
- It follows the match with Norway. Will it be the most difficult?
- I am sure it will be like a final of the European Championship. They have experience, they have a homogenous team, but we’ll fight. We have younger players, but be sure that we won’t give up. We hope to have a good day and we can be in the semifinals.
