The truth about Marian Cozma's murder

One month after Marian Cozma’s death, GSP investigated at Veszprem the turbid circumstances of the handball player murder. The variant of an aggression transformed in an ordered crime was confirmed by many sources

Tomorrow it is 30 days since Marian Cozma was killed with red blood in a night club from Veszprem.

For the first time, authorized testimonies of some old friends of the handball player, but also testimonies of the members from different castes from Veszprem speak about a premeditated aggression, which transformed in murder.

The waitress beaten by the gypsies, a myth
"If Marian died because he stood up for a waitress, as it was said before, I would have been proud of him", said Petre Cozma in Evenimentul zilei.

The waitress from Patriota Lokal is in everyone’s testimonies, but nobody could find her. Some people say that the waitress had been bumped against the table by Stojka and his friends.

ACTION NO. 1 A waitress with the cheek bone broken would have arrived sooner or later to the hospital, and the doctors from the Municipal Hospital from Veszprem are convinced: "No way!".

The employees of the club Patriota hardly speak. But all the people interested, with no exception, have the same variant: "None of us was injured, aggressed or treated harshly in that night".

This is the first hint that the assassins didn’t hit at random. Besides, not even the Police, which have already heard 150 persons in this case, don’t know anything about this. So, the context of the waitress defended by Marian is not valid. The hypothesis of the waitress had been launched at the beginning of the investigation  (video)

How did the scandal begin
Why was the handball player killed? After the second travel in Hungary we analyzed the declaration of many people, some of them were under anonymity, and we made again the crime film

ACTION NO. 2 The incident started from a girl, Helga Toth, who, from a certain reason, still ambiguous, started to swear and offend the handball player. Peevish, Marian riposted, smacking the woman.

Everything finished here between the two, and the conflict was applauded by the colleagues of the handball player. After about an hour and several beers consumed by Cozma and his colleagues, in the club appeared the 25 gypsies.

ACTION NO. 3 The gypsies had been called by the boyfriend of the woman smacked by Marian, Csaba Beery, and his brother, Tamas Beery. The gang didn’t actually come with the thought to kill him, but to frighten the Romanian.

They didn’t know Cozma and they didn’t know he was a handball player. Witnesses of the incidents from that evening say that a group of gypsies moved on the dance floor, installing ostentatious near the handball players.

The one regarded was Marian, who had been provoked many times through "accidental" shoves during the dance. The Romanian didn’t riposte initially. "Marian was not an aggressive person, he didn’t seek for scandal, people didn’t know him in Veszprem neither as a trouble maker, nor as a person who is provoked and does not react".

The group of retaliation continued to jostle on purpose into the handball player, and at a given moment, irritated by their insistence, Marian pushed back, says a witness.

"That was the signal waited by the gypsies. Nemeth Gozo, the one who was captured in Austria, was the first who hit him, then Sandor"

Even Marian fisted him. In that row, he fell down and he cut himself at his back in glass shards. Then followed the fragment from the video recording. "Marian ran upstairs and the gypsies ran after him", says the witness.

The variant with the glass shards on the floor is asserted by the club patron in the declarations from the Hungarian press and he also affirmed that Marian had drunk many beers. Why the bodyguards didn’t intervene to reconcile the conflict? Because everything happened in a second

The police say that 64 seconds have passed between the moment when Marian was still dancing downstairs and the moment when he died stabbed, up in the street.

ACTION NO. 4 How did they reach to kill him, if the gypsies came only to scare Marian? "They got angry because Marian riposted. They didn’t expect to be confronted. Things degenerated.", we find out from the witness.

Tamas Beery, the redoubtable shadow
As three persons brought to light, Marian’s friends thinks that the moral author of the crime is Tamas Beery, the one who called the gypsies in that night in the club. But who is he? We find out that Tamas Beery is, as people know him, a prosperous business man, whose last project, a residential houses district, in value of 1 milliard forint, is supported in public by the mayor of the town.

Besides, Tamas appears many times accompanied by some chiefs from Police, lawyers, judges or politicians. On the other hand, we found out that the same Tamas has connections with the gypsy mafia from Balaton area, whose members killed Marian.

Because he has a small speech deficiency, Tamas developed a fixation which he tries to compensate, say the persons around him, through megalomania. Everybody knows that the stammerer Tamas has never finished the Faculty of Law, because he was expelled, but, because of his wish, or because his friends want to crawfish, all the people call him "The Lawyer".

A lot of money
In some circles, the name Beery is associated, say our sources, together with his group of influence, in the activities with a lot of money from Balaton area.

Besides, because he has a lot of friends, he often helped the gypsies who arrived at the Police to get out. He has never involved actively in "dirty things", which he left in Stojka, Sandor’s and company’s charge.

ACTION NO. 5 That evening, he called and asked the gypsies to help. As they were near, at Szekesfehervar, at 50 kilometers from Veszprem, they were anyway in an "intervention".

Tamas knew that the gang was coming. One of our sources, an important member of the rival clan explained to us: "It wasn’t the first time when he called them. He did this thing from megalomania. He knew who Marian was, but he didn’t tell to the gypsies. He wanted to show everybody that night, but especially to us, who is he and the power he has. Although, it wasn’t necessary, he called many gypsies; that is why they were 25. They wanted to impress, to transmit us that they are many and united. He wanted to show that he is the boss in the town. The gypsies haven’t come in Veszprem for 6 months because last time only the police saved them from us. The police didn’t let us to give them a lesson".

Helga is the Romanian former lover?
We have also found out that Helga Toth, Csaba Beery’s beloved, practiced the prostitution in the past in Italy. She is described as a dependent, passionate of alcohol, an impulsive and aggressive nature.

That night, both she and the Beery brothers had drunk a lot. Why did they argue with Marian? At this point, the sources do not have the same declarations, but two of three affirm that the Romanian had had in the past an adventure with Helga. "Marian was a super guy. He liked girls; that’s the truth! He had an adventure with Helga", this way is described the Romanian by one of his friends. This explains the fact that the two didn’t argue at random because they know each other.

The fact that Marian had an adventure with the woman of his brother could weigh in Tamas’s decision of giving a lesson to the handball player. Besides, in order to complete the actions picture, we found out a detail: that Helga’s mother works in the Police.

Beery betrayed his people
The Police hesitate to announce public the actions. But the source continues the revelations. Why does he do this? "Because the killers are my enemies. And because I liked Marian. I am on his side, he was my friend". He tells us, also how did the Hungarian Police manage the incomparable performance of starting the general suit on 10th February, but they captured the first suspects on 9th February.

"Beery made an agreement with the Police. He was the one who took Stojka and another one from the 5 persons captured now in Budapest. In the morning he was called to the public prosecutor’s office. He indicated the exact location of every person involved in this. He told them that Sandor and Gozo are on A2 going to Austria, and that Stojka is in Budapest and he wants to surrender to the police".

GSP tried to obtain also Tamas Beery’s point of view, but they couldn’t find him.

The Police investigates
The next step was to try to speak with the police officers who investigate the case. Peter Pogany, one of the investigation coordinators in the case Cozma, chose to speak through the spokesman, Dr. Piroska Varadi.

News? "The investigation continues. I cannot give you too much information", we were told from the very beginning. Did Marian have something to do with the gypsies in the past? "As far as we know, he had nothing to do with them. If he had been involved in quarrels, the Police didn’t find out about them".

There are no information which to indicate that Marian and his attackers would have met before. Then, surprise, we found out that the researches might end this summer.

... until this summer
We mentioned to the spokesman the name of the two brothers Beery. It doesn’t seem to be surprised, and her answer assures us that we deal with more than a rumour. "Because we are still investigating, I cannot give you names or more details, or what the examined witnesses declared, because the persons investigated could be influenced in the next declarations of what appears in the newspapers".

The official variant, adopted as we have already said by the local press, too, is that there was a spontaneous conflict. We inform the spokesman that Marian’s father is sure about the reverse. The spokesman becomes immediately interested in the subject. "Did he say that? Where? Why does he think this? Hmmm". How does he explain the presence of the numerous group of gypsies, who arrived there "to have fun" in that club without being accompanied by women, although they always amazed with the women around them? Varadi doesn’t have an explanation for this thing.

"You deserve this, idiot!"
Another information, but which is invented probably just like the story with the smacked waitress, is about Helga who addresses to Marian, who was on the ground, laying up, stabbed, in the last seconds of his life. "You deserve this, idiot. Would you ever hit me again?", it is rumoured that this said the former lover to the handball player.

ACTION NO. 6 The same member of the rival gang says that he knows personally the one who heard the girl saying this. He is a former football player from the Hungarian first division, who seems to be the first who arrived near Marian after he was stabbed. "But please, don’t say his name", he told us the name but we conformed and didn’t say it. The man really exists.

The policemen disappeared from the club
Our sources say also that 6 policemen in civil were in the club that night. But when the gypsies appeared, four of them disappeared. The four policemen received an admonition for "lack of reaction" from the chief of the Police from Veszprem, Bolcsik Zoltan. This information was confirmed by the local newspapers. Although they were in civil, the policemen had the duty to intervene in those moments, was the explanation of the Police chief.

The tension continues to hover. The handball player who bled to death on a footwalk from Veszprem reopened public an endless conflict, from a country, which, seen closely reveals its violent contrasts.

ACTION NO. 7 On Monday, Hungary had another drama. In Tatarszentgyorgy, near Budapesta, two gypsies were killed. The father of 27 years old, Csorba Robert, and his son of 5 years, Csorba Robert jr.,  were alone at home, when someone thrown on the window a cocktail Molotov. The father took his child and ran outside, in the yard, where they were both killed, with two bullets shot with a hunting gun. Up to the present, no one had been arrested.
